- I think there are several factors that were not relevent back in the 50's. There is the whole 'Oprahfication' of America, of striving to be the best you can be. Trying to succeed, in whatever terms is not a bad thing.

- I think monogamy is somewhat realistic, depending on the personality of the people involved. Some people are just satisfied by what they have, and they are not looking for anything else. In short, I think people are wired to be serial monogamists; happy until something else comes along.

- Normal is a relative term. I think people should ask themselves some hard questions 1. Did you get married because you really loved the person or because it was the 'next step'? 2. Are you married because the person was the best person at the time?

- Silver: Just for info: the term was started by the US Census. Seems they wanted to classify blacks from African descent along ones that were from places like Haiti or Dominican Republic. They also do the same with Samoans and Native Hawaiians etc... After the 80's the term just stuck.
